Man United target Milan Skriniar set for Inter Milan renewal

Slovakia defender Milan Skriniar is said to be edging closer to signing a new deal with the Serie A heavyweights Inter Milan.

Skriniar has made a strong impression for Nerazzurri during his maiden season at Giuseppe Meazza with his performances drawing plenty of attention, most notably from Manchester United.

The Red Devils attempted to sign the 23-year-old centre-back last year but their approach has been rebuffed and Inter Milan are now ready to show their belief in the player by tying him to a new and improved contract.

The Italian media are reporting that Skriniar’s representatives are looking to get a deal worth €3 million per season, which is slightly below the amount Inter Milan are willing to offer.

Certain reports have it that Manchester Cit…

Liverpool´s Diaz ruled out until after World Cup as Klopp confirms six-to-eight-week absence

Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is set be sidelined until after the World Cup, with Jurgen Klopp confirming the knee injury he sustained against Arsenal will keep him out for six to eight weeks.

The 25-year-old, a January buy from Porto who played a key role in Liverpool s FA Cup and EFL Cup triumphs last season, was forced off before half-time against the Gunners on Sunday.

While initial scans showed Diaz will not need to undergo surgery, he is nevertheless ruled out for the foreseeable future, with a return to action unlikely until the festive period.

Diaz was not the only Liverpool player to sustain an injury at the Emirates Stadium, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joel Matip joining him in the treatment room.

Milan´s Calabria undergoes hernia operation after missing out on Italy squad

Davide Calabria should be fit to return for next season after undergoing surgery on a sports hernia, Milan have confirmed.

The full-back has not been included in Italy s provisional squad for Euro 2020, so his season was already over after helping Milan qualify for the Champions League with a 2-0 win over Atalanta on Sunday.

Calabria played 36 times across all competitions for Milan in 2020-21, scoring twice and providing one assist from 26 chances created, while also helping Stefano Pioli s team keep 11 clean sheets.

The 24-year-old may well feel hard done by to have missed out on Roberto Mancini s 33-man selection, which will be cut to 26 by the deadline of midnight on June 1.

South Africa´s Mokoena signs new Portsmouth deal

South Africa captain Aaron Mokoena signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with English Championship club Portsmouth on Friday.

Mokoena was keen to extend his stay with Portsmouth even though the Fratton Park team were relegated from the Premier League last season.

The 29-year-old, who joined Portsmouth from Blackburn in 2009, has been a key figure this season as Steve Cotterill s team recovered from a poor start to climb away from the relegation zone.

With Portsmouth finally under new ownership following Balram Chainrai s takeover, the club was able to reward Moekoena for his loyalty by handing him a new deal.

Mokoena told Portsmouth s website: I wanted to commit myself to Pompey because this is where I belong.

This club is a big club and I m…

England U21 can learn from Germans, says Pearce

England Under-21 coach Stuart Pearce admits his side can learn plenty from their German counterparts after Germany s 2-0 home win over their old rivals.

Goals by Hanover s Konstantin Rausch and Frankfurt s Cenk Tosun sealed Germany s 2-0 over the English in Wiesbaden on Tuesday night and Pearce was impressed with what he saw.

Compared with Germany, we in England still have a lot of catching up to do in terms of development, said Pearce, who was Fabio Capello s assistant coach with the senior England side at the last World Cup.

I wish that more of our young players played in the Premier League.

Most of the Germany side already play regularly in the Bundesliga, while their English counterparts have more limited opportunities at their Premier League club…

Mourinho woe a sign of the times in competitive Premier League – Martinez

Jose Mourinho s Chelsea struggles do not surprise Roberto Martinez as his Everton counterpart thinks bumper television deals are starting to prove a real leveller in the Premier League.

Reports have suggested that Mourinho is on the brink of getting sacked as the champions sit just two points above the bottom three after 16 games.

The latest of Chelsea s nine league defeats this season came on Monday at Leicester City, who travel to Goodison Park this weekend two points clear at the top of the table.

While Leicester s success is not directly linked to money spent strengthening their squad – top scorer Jamie Vardy has been at the club since May 2012 and cost less than £2million – rival top-flight sides are undoubtedly splashing the cash to bridge the gap with…

Napoli keen on Hector Herrera

Serie A giants Napoli are hot on the trail of FC Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, La Gazzetta dello Sport has learned.

The Azzurri are in the market for an attacking midfielder who can further improve team s performances and they have been linked with quite a few high profile players of late.

Nevertheless, La Gazzetta dello Sport is adamant that FC Porto s Hector Herrera has been chosen as the number one target.

The Azzurri believe they can secure the Mexican s signature at a reasonable price, and they appear to have given up pursuit of Andre Gomes.

Hector Herrera has largely impressed since joining the club from Pachuca in July 2013, as he went on to make 61 league appearances, scoring 9 goals in the process.

The 25-year-old has also been an int…

There is no ´Piatek problem´, says Milan coach Pioli

Out-of-sorts striker Krzysztof Piatek is not the root of Milan s problems, according to head coach Stefano Pioli.

Piatek joined Milan 11 months ago from Genoa and made an instant impression, scoring seven times in his first six games.

The Polish star finished the 2018-19 campaign with 22 Serie A goals, but he has struggled to hit those heights this season, finding the net just three times and failing to score in six successive matches.

Milan, down in 11th in the table, have struggled as a result, but Pioli feels their issues are collective, rather than individual.

There is no Piatek problem, he said at a news conference to preview Sunday s game against Bologna.

There is a Milan that is playing well, that is working hard to climb out of this sl…

Guardiola congratulates Klopp and vows to see out his own contract at Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has congratulated Jurgen Klopp on his new deal at Liverpool and has vowed to see out his own Manchester City contract.

Liverpool announced on Friday that Klopp has agreed fresh terms at Anfield to keep him in place for another four-and-a-half years.

Guardiola s long-term future appears less clear, though, amid reports his existing deal contains a break clause that will allow him to walk away at the end of the season.

However, the Catalan coach, who last month stated he is open to staying on beyond the end of his contract in June 2021, denied any truth to the rumours.

It s not true, he said at Friday s pre-match news conference ahead of this weekend s Premier League trip to Arsenal.

The power behind this wins s Goal of the Month…
